Estepona and Casares have been the municipalities most affected by the fire de Sierra Bermeja, according to the definitive measurements provided by the INFOCA Plan. The fire affected a total of 8,401.02 hectares spread over seven municipalities. Almost half of the entire area affected by fire is concentrated in Estepona, which has seen razed 4,117.77 hectares of its municipal term.
The second most affected municipality is Casares, with 1,305.29 hectares burned, followed by Jubrique, with 1,177.44, and Genalguacil, with 1,043.33 hectares. The rest of the affected localities do not reach the thousand hectares affected in their territory, such as Júzcar, Faraján, and to a lesser extent Benahavís, where less than one hectare has burned.
The Sierra Bermeja fire, declared the past September 8th, It has already been over a month and has not yet been declared extinct. INFOCA considers it ‘checked’ because it cannot advance its perimeter, but it still has numerous hot spots in its interior, which daily maintain a score of forest firefighters in tasks of auction and liquidation.
