The Estepona Town Hall is carrying out the ornamentation and embellishment of public green areas of the city on the occasion of the winter campaign, for what is planting more than 250,000 plant specimens of colored flowers and shrub species from the municipal nursery, as announced this Thursday by the deputy mayor of the Services and External Control area, Blas Ruzafa.

The municipal manager has highlighted that these tasks are carried out throughout the year, since when this campaign is finished -which will last until March-, it will begin spring-summer planting.

The councilor explained that the operators are placing a average of 50,000 copies each monthall of them from the municipal nursery, which after various extensions currently has a production capacity of more than 500,000 plants per yearwhich together with the existing multi-year flower cycles, make Estepona the city of a million flowers.

In this regard, he stressed that the fact that the plants come from the municipal nursery supposes an important cost reduction which entails an action to beautify these characteristics, facilities in which he has indicated that he works with new species that are tested in municipal gardens to see which of them offer the best results in each area.

The mayor stressed that “the plantation of flowering species It has become one of the hallmarks of the municipality and undoubtedly contributes to consolidating the Estepona project, Garden of the Costa del Sol”.

Likewise, Blas Ruzafa added that the goal of the government team is for the city to have one of the public gardens “most important in Spain”, for which plantations are carried out throughout the year with flowers adapted to each season. These plantings are carried out on the main avenues, on the seafront, at the entrances to Estepona and squares in the urban area, as well as in the suburbs.

In total, it is expected intervene in more than 400,000 square meters of surface area of ​​green areas, to which this year the new pedestrianized section of Avenida de España and the recently remodeled Plaza del Ajedrez have been added.

With regard to species, the deputy mayor has pointed out that they are mainly planting tajeteslobelias, begonias, marigolds, geraniums and other species Shrubs like the acalifas.
