The accommodation portal clubrural.com has drawn up a ranking in which it indicates the most searched towns on its website and where the municipality of Mijas has been awarded the distinction of ‘Capital of rural tourism 2022 of Malaga’as announced this Friday by the mayor, Josele González.

The councilor explained that “in 2021 they already pointed out to us as one of the 20 preferred rural coastal destinationss for its users in Spain”, achieving this year the distinction at the provincial level, since the list highlights the most popular destination in each province of Spain.

According to González, this distinction of ‘Capital of rural tourism 2022 of Malaga’ supposes “a appreciation for all the work and effort that this government team has been developing to place Mijas at the top not only of the municipalities of Malaga, but also of Andalusia”.

Thus, the mayor of Mijas has highlighted “the importance of continuing to bet on quality tourism where nature, traditions and outdoor sports they play a fundamental role”, emphasizing that “Mijas is not only sun and beach, our municipality has a wide tourist offer that goes beyond these two segments that are so exploited on the Costa del Sol”.

As González has recalled, “Mijas has had this summer a large influx of visitors from Spanish territory”, emphasizing that “national tourism has been our great lifeline in 2021 and we are sure that those roots that we have managed to plant during the past year will bear fruit in 2022”.

For his part, the Councilor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín, has opined that “it is not surprising that Mijas is at the head of this type of ranking, since our tourist offer is wide and adapts perfectly to all kinds of tastes”.

In this sense, he recalled that within the rural area “we have a lot to offer because our great geographical extension also means that we do not have overcrowding neither on our beaches, nor in our mountains, nor in the activities we carry out”, while adding that “we know how to adapt to the circumstances and work at all times with the best market trend”. In line with this, he has stressed that in these last two years “we have been concerned with being a safe place against Covid-19 and offering all those new travel formulas that tourists demand”.
