The Town Hall of mijas has presented this Thursday in the exhibition space of the Costa del Sol stand of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur)the municipality’s new promotional campaign under the slogan ‘Mijas, rural and sustainable’, with which it is committed to this segment to break with tourist seasonality, create employment and generate opportunities, as highlighted by the mayor, Josele González.
The councilor has pointed out that “in this edition we come to Madrid with the clear objective of continuing to grow in rural tourism, a segment that has been increasing exponentially in Mijas in the last two years and we want to strengthen it.”
González stressed that rural tourism “represents yet another tool for break seasonalitycreate employment and generate opportunities”, who added that “the City Council has already been working on this tourism 365 days a year, also promoting the 12 golf courses in the town”.
Thus, the new promotion of the destination highlights four fundamental attractions to attract this type of visitor, such as hiking trails in the mountainsthe typical Andalusian white villagegastronomy and crafts.
For his part, the Councilor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín, has highlighted that “there are several factors that differentiate us from our direct competitors in this segment and can be decisive when rural tourists can opt for a place or another, among them, the diversity of the outdoor offer with the combination of nature of mountain and seaas well as the opportunity to enjoy the silence and calm of sparsely populated areas, having all kinds of services quickly within reach”.
In this way, he has highlighted that “in mijas you can live all kinds of experiences and sensations typical of rural tourism”. The demand for destinations of this nature is increasing among the national public, having experienced a growth of 5 points in recent years (42 percent by 2022) in addition to repeating them more frequently.
According to him Rural Tourism Observatorythe prospects for 2023 are increasing since 82 percent of these travelers plan to repeat the experience this year and, for the most part, they express the intention of making at least two rural getaways.
The municipality has already been considered one of the leading destinations in Spain rural tourism of the coast in addition to ‘Rural Capital 2022‘ from the province of Malaga. In Mijas there are 46 rural houses and 87 rural tourist homes in addition to the rest of accommodation and hotels.
