The Costa del Sol Health Agency (ASCS) commemorates, today October 14, the ‘World Heart Arrest Day‘with an Open Day, both in the Costa del Sol Hospital of Marbella, as in the High Resolution Hospital (HAR) of Benalmádena. The objective is “to train professionals and the general public in the use of the semiautomatic defibrillator (AED) and in life support techniques”, pursuing a single goal: save lifes.

It is estimated that in Spain there is a cardiac arrest every 20 minutes. Performing the CPR procedure in the first 3-5 minutes can achieve a survival up to 75% and conversely, for each minute of delay in defibrillation the probability of survival is reduced by one 10-15%. For this reason, the Health Agency considers «essential that it be known how to act in the event that someone suffers a cardiovascular accident. ‘

The Open Doors Day is held simultaneously in the two hospitals, from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., fully open to the public and with all the necessary security measures. During it, professionals teach attendees the Basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers and the use of the defibrillator semi-automatic, with the help of simulation material, and showing how a heart massage quality, as well as ventilation maneuvers.
