Five weeks before the start of the league, the CAB Estepona Jardín on the Costa del Sol began its preseason at the José Antonio Pineda pavilion under the orders of Bea pacheco. Not all the players are there yet and the first sessions will look more for the physical section and cohesion as a group, but the 2021/22 season is already a reality. Thirteen players attended the first preseason training session, waiting for the internationals to arrive in the next few days. Tayler mingo and Marlene Aniambossou.
The prolific squad of the club will serve to reinforce the training of the first team and cover the absences of Mingo, Aniambossou and three other players from the squad (Carla Viegas, Lucía Cazorla and Princess Okafor), who will meet with the Andalusian team to prepare the Spanish Championship of regional teams, which will be held at the beginning of September in Huelva and which, foreseeably, will leave all Women’s Challenge League depleted during several weeks of preseason.
Damilola Bakare, Lucia Serrano and Virginia Javaloyes They are the ones who will help the first team to be able to continue with the training sessions without losing numbers, and they are thus rewarded for their good work over the last few seasons. Rocio Plaza, for his part, continues his recovery working individually but without losing team dynamics.
The players have already begun to undergo the relevant medical examinations at the Los Reales de Estepona Medical Center. The first to pass the tests were Carla Viegas, Gema Garcia and Laura Fernandez, while the rest of the components of the first team will do so in the coming days.
The LF Challenge is the silver category of Spanish women’s basketball, and this year a bridge has been created between the LF Endesa (highest category) and LF2. It consists of 16 teams, with the 2 descended from LF Endesa and the 14 promoted from LF2 from the previous season.
A first phase will be played by a double round league system, with a single group and 30 rounds. The first classified of the regular league will be promoted directly to LF Endesa, while the last two teams will be relegated to LF2. Next to CAB Estepona Garden on the Costa del Sol, in this new category there are historical Spanish basketball teams, such as the Barça CBS or the Joventut de Badalona.
The first day of the LF Challenge will be held on September 24 and 25. The CAB Estepona Jardín on the Costa del Sol debuts at home welcoming the Osés Ardoi Construction.
