The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, has highlighted the professional and personal trajectory of the teacher Juana Rivera Muñoz, known as ‘Doña Juanita’, during the inauguration of a street with his name in San Pedro Alcántara. The councilor stressed that “today we are faced with a fair and emotional recognition of a woman who is much loved by all who know her and who has given so much to others both in the educational and social fields.” As a result of that affection, the municipal Corporation voted in plenary session for unanimity this homage to the one who was a teacher at CEIP San Pedro and from whom so many citizens have had the opportunity to learn. “It is a pride to be here today, in this newly created street that will open in the next few days and that for us was a perfect enclave for this recognition,” Muñoz highlighted. In this sense, the road is located in the north of San Pedro Alcántara, once the action carried out from the roundabout on Castilla Street in the direction of the Cuatro Vientos building has been carried out.

The first mayor has stated that “Juanita, you are an example of overcoming everything you have done in the educational field and also in the personal field, giving the best of yourself to others.” “Your effort and talent led you to become a teacher in 1948 and your first destination was Torre del Mar, later passing through Benahavís and Vélez Málaga before arriving in San Pedro in 1964, where you began to teach at the ‘villa’ to all the girls of the time ”, he added. He has also pointed out that in 1969 new educational spaces were built in the laundry area, becoming the current San Pedro school, and Doña Juanita remained there until her retirement in 1991. The mayor has indicated that “surely all who have learned with you remember you with great affection, as do all those people who have benefited from your committed and social work, such as the literacy work that you carried out in associations such as Housewives and the Red Cross ”. “In gratitude for everything you have given us, we approved this proposal for the designation of ‘Doña Juanita’ street, which we materialize today, also unanimously endorsed by the Municipal Board of the San Pedro Alcántara District and by the School Council and Ampa from Colegio San Pedro ”, explained the councilor.

For her part, María Plaza, companion of ‘Doña Paquita’ at CEIP San Pedro, addressed a few words to the attendees on behalf of the family of the honoree, of which she has highlighted that “she is a very valuable citizen of our town, where she has devoted her life to education since she arrived as a teacher.” In addition, he has shown his satisfaction “for all those who have made this event possible, because it is a great way to thank their work and a recognition of the importance of education.”
