The candidate for mayor, José Bernal, along with candidate number 2, Elena Benítez, presented this Thursday a complete sports programwith which they want to place this area as a “priority” in the management of the City Council and provide the municipality with the sports facilities “it deserves”.
Bernal has criticized the “absolute neglect” of the mayoress, Ángeles Muñozin this matter during 14 years of government and has recalled that at the end of this mandate there is the “clamorous circumstance that we have fewer sports facilities than in 2019” because the stadium is closed, as is the Serrano Lima pool, and the La Campana sports center has been dismantled.
“From the PSOE we are committed to the sport to take care of the health of our neighbors and also as an element to keep our young people away from harmful aspects such as drugs”, he pointed out.
He program is prepared by the sampedreña Elena Benítez, who was an elite athlete, Olympic champion in Barcelona 92, and an expert in sports management after spending 14 years at the Sant Cugat High Performance Center (Barcelona) and currently in charge of the Technical Department of the Spanish Taekwondo Federation.

Elena Benítez has detailed that they are considering “three large sports areas”, one in Marbella, another in Nueva Andalucía-San Pedro and the creation of a sports city that includes a football stadium.

The PSOE candidate has also explained that her program includes the start-up of a sports city, which will include a football stadium, in a location that is included in the new urban approach that is being carried out.
For the financing of these projects He has said that collaboration is necessary between the different public institutions (City Hall, Provincial Council and Junta de Andalucía), as well as European funds.
Elena Benítez has also detailed the intention of sign agreements with schools and institutes to use its facilities during non-school hours, as well as promote municipal schools as a “pillar of grassroots sport”.
