The Emergency Unit of the Regional University Hospital of Malaga has received quality certification from the Andalusian Health Quality Agency (ACSA), an entity belonging to the Ministry of Health and Consumption and integrated into the Progreso y Salud Foundation, and whose standards are recognized by national and international accreditation bodies such as ENAC or the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQUA).

The act of delivery of this certificate, held in the assembly hall of the General Hospital, has been witnessed by the managing director of the Regional Hospital, María del Mar Vázquez Jiménez; and the director of the Andalusian Health Quality Agency, José Ignacio del Río Maza de Lizana. The event was also attended by professionals from the certified unit, the management team and the hospital’s Quality team.

During the act, the head of the Emergency Unit, Eva Fragero Blesa, on behalf of her entire team, collected the certificate that accredits the completion of the certification process with the ACSA, culminating in obtaining the ‘Advanced’ level of quality.

With this distinction, the unit demonstrates its commitment to excellence and the continuous improvement of the service it offers to citizens, guaranteeing that its activity complies with the quality standards defined in the certification manuals of the Andalusian Health Quality Agency, have indicated from the Board in a statement.

These quality criteria evaluate aspects related to the organization of the activity, the accessibility and continuity of care, the rights of users or the safety of the processes.

Through the self-assessment that the unit has carried out on the ACSA standards and that has been ratified in an evaluation visit, the certification process has represented for the unit, in addition to recognition, an opportunity for learning and growth, which has allowed him to identify and develop improvement actions.

In addition, the evaluation team has identified aspects of the unit’s activity that have been considered true strengths of its work, highlighting in particular the analysis and improvement of response times, the implementation of a humanization plan and the development of a specific procedure that improves the quality and safety of care for frail patients.

CERTIFICATION OF CENTERS AND UNITS

With these recognitions, the Regional University Hospital of Malaga once again confirms its commitment to a culture of quality and to certification as a tool for internal analysis and continuous improvement. This SAS center already has twenty-one centers and units certified by the Andalusian Health Quality Agency.

In addition to Gynecology and Obstetrics, the Critical Care and Pediatric Emergency Units have this distinction, at the ‘Excellent’ level, the Radiotherapy Oncology, Paediatrics, Neonatology, Allergology and Continuing Education units, all at the ‘Optimal’ level, and the Emergency Medicine, Medical Oncology, Endocrinology and Nutrition, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, Intensive Care, Pediatric Surgery, Hematology, Digestive System, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Rheumatology, Neurology, Neurophysiology and Neurosurgery, and Mental Health , at ‘Advanced’ level.

The Andalusian Health Quality Agency is an evaluation and certification entity attached to the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs and integrated into the Progreso y Salud Foundation.

Its certification activity is aimed at health and social service centers and units, at the skills of health professionals and continuous training, according to the certification model of the Public Health System of Andalusia, always seeking excellence in health care and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
