The president of the Malaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, has gone to the command post from where the tasks of extinguishing the fire declared in the municipalities of Estepona, Genalguacil and Jubrique, in the Sierra Bermeja area are coordinated, and there he has assessed the imminent expansion of air resources involved in the extinction, which will go from ten to twenty-six.
“The situation is worrying because the force of the wind increases and the area of the fire is very abrupt and with a lot of trees,” said the provincial president, who has advanced that the CPB troops are currently working on trying to perimeter the different sources of the fire in depending on the direction it is taking, with the idea of planning more evictions than those already carried out if necessary.
In statements made to the microphones of AZ, it has been confirmed that the fire is already in the municipality of Benahavís and at least 100 people have already been evicted from their homes in the surroundings of the Montemayor area.
For his part, the mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, has declared that the environmental damage is being very serious and that they will ask the central government for help so that the impact is as low as possible.
