The Estepona City Council informs that next Sunday the 4th, at 7:30 p.m., the opening gala of the XXIII Costa del Sol International Fantastic Film Week will take place at the Felipe VI Auditorium, sponsored by the well-known mentalist Anthony Blake, and whose activities will last until September 10.

On December 12, 1972, “The Poseidon Adventure” officially premiered in New York. This 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of that premiere. For this reason, the central theme of this edition of the festival will be “Cinema of Catastrophes”.

The film competition will begin on Sunday, September 4, at 7:30 p.m., in the Felipe VI Auditorium, with the inauguration of the exhibition “20 Years with Harry Potter” and the Inaugural Tribute Concert for the 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter, by the “Ciudad de Jaén” Symphonic Band.

At this gala, the Argentine director Eduardo Pinto will present the film “El Desarmadero”, included in the Official Section.

In addition, the 2022 Special Jury Prize “Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol” will be awarded to the Malaga-born actor Joaquín Núñez (Trinidad neighborhood, 1961). He began in the world of cinema in 2005 with the short film Cinema Parabicho, which would win the award for Best Fiction Short Film at the Malaga Spanish Film Festival. From that moment on, he has left great performances in film and television, with films such as Grupo 7, Who Killed Bambi?, Now or Never, The Black Stain or Oliver’s Universe, and series such as Time Fugue, Brigade of phenomena, Tell me how it happened, Caronte, Costa del Sol Brigade or TOY BOY, being recognized for his good performance with the Goya for best revelation actor in 2013 for his performance as Mateo in Group 7, in addition to other awards, such as the ASFAAN Award, the Biznaga de Plata for best actor in 2018 at the Malaga Spanish Film Festival, the ASECAM Award, the Una vida de cine Award, or the Circle of Film Writers Award, among many others.

Other personalities attending the opening gala will be the illusionist Anthony Blake, as Godfather of this edition of the festival, and the Italian actor Cosimo Fusco, -known for the series “30 Coins” or “Venicephrenia”, both by director Alex of the Church-, and that he will be awarded the Lumiere Foundation Medal for his professional career. At the same gala, the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Award will be presented to Trevor Butterfield, special effects technician for the entire saga.

Admission to the opening gala is free, after collecting invitations at the municipal delegation of Culture.
