Police officers have arrested this past Sunday in Marbella (Málaga) a passenger of a VTC car that was transporting 10.8 kilograms of cannabis in a suitcase.
The 28-year-old suspect was arrested for his alleged responsibility in a crime against public health after being surprised at a police checkpoint, the National Police said in a statement.
The arrest occurred this past Sunday around 8:00 p.m. on Luis Braille Avenue in Marbella. Agents from the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) of the Marbella Police Station were carrying out an identification device when, after stopping the driver of a VTC car, they detected the elusive behavior of a passenger who was traveling in the back seat of the car.
In this context and after consulting him about the place where he was going, the passenger was increasingly elusive before the agents, who decided to continue with the corresponding inquiries.
Thus, in an inspection of his belongings, the agents detected the smell of cannabis coming from a suitcase with a security code deposited in the trunk. The traveler and person in charge of the package argued that he did not remember the code to open the luggage, so the Police forced the closure.
Finally, the agents discovered that the suitcase concealed 17 hashish wrappers with a total weight of 6,011 grams and, in addition, 36 packages of marijuana with 4,798 grams. In total, the amount of cannabis seized amounted to 10,809 grams.
According to the driver of the VTC vehicle, the passenger had taken the transport in San Pedro Alcántara and was heading to Puerto Banús. The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court number 4 of Marbella.
