The Estepona City Council informs that this Sunday, October 9, the IX 10 Kilometer Urban Race will be held, organized by the Estepona Athletics Club, in collaboration with the Consistory and that, as in every edition, it will be of a charitable nature.
As reported by the deputy mayor of the Sociocultural area, Begoña Ortiz, the absolute race will have 750 runners, who will once again enjoy an attractive itinerary. Thus, they will go through the main avenues of the city, the promenade, sections of the coastal corridor and some streets of the old town. In addition, this year as a novelty, the new remodeled section of the Avenida de España is included in the route. The start and finish will be made from the Athletics Stadium.
Like other years, in addition to the 10-kilometer race, that same morning there will be another 5-kilometer race for families or people who are starting out as athletes, or who want to enjoy this sporting event, which, as the councilor has stated, has become a provincial reference.
Likewise, as usual, the IX Urban Race will celebrate the day before, Saturday, October 8, a Race for Minors that will take place between the Athletics Stadium and the Fair and Sports Park. There will be different distances depending on the category (from junior to cadet) and it is expected to have about 250 participants.
The municipal official has also highlighted the charitable nature of the event. Thus, this year the participants of the Minors Race will be able to donate 1 kilo of food that will be donated to the Estepona Social Dining Room.
On the other hand, any participant can donate clothing or sports shoes so that the Estepona Athletics Club can deliver them to the NGO Fundación Solidaria Luna Nueva, which carries out part of its work in Senegal.
Lastly, the Estepona Athletics Club will deliver the proceeds from the Minors’ Race to the ‘Paula y la Fábrica de Marrow’ Foundation, which cares for families in Estepona who have minors with leukemia.
