“Long live San Pedro de Alcántara! Long live!”shouted the hundreds of people present in the Plaza de la Iglesia amid applause and tears. After a hard year of pandemic in which our customs and traditions had been left in the background, today San Pedro has been able to revive with illusions and desire the procession of his Patron Saint. As if it had never left, it has returned to its streets as well as the joy, the party and the illusion.
Hundreds of people have gathered in the streets of San Pedro to see their long-awaited patron again, the one they have missed so much and looked forward to. At last, the fair has returned to the town. Of course, with a different format but with the same desire for each year.
San Pedro Alcántara has lived his Big Day today and he has done it with the celebration of acts in honor of his Patron Saint. The day started with a solemn mass in the church and has continued with the procession through the streets of the city. Some acts presided over by the mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, together with the deputy mayor, Javier García, and other municipal authorities.
“Still with caution but there was already a desire for this,” a woman commented to us who enjoyed the procession in the streets of San Pedro, through which the music reached every corner.
Gypsy dresses, flowers in their hair, jacket suits and masks were today the great ensembles that were displayed in the streets of San Pedro, accompanied by great joy to the sound of the music that went to the passage of the Patron Saint, with the Musical Group from Marbella and the Municipal Band. Old, young and young, all united on this special day for them who, together with many people from different parts of the world, have wanted to pay tribute to this important figure for the town. “Two years without fair and nothing, you had to live it now”Some neighbors commented with laughter who applauded as San Pedro de Alcántara approached.
«It is a very special day for several reasons. The first departure of the Patron Saint through the town. I want to have a reminder for all those who are no longer with us. It is the first procession we have in Marbella and we are very happy with how the fair has developed. The residents have set an example of civility throughout the fair, ”the deputy mayor told us during the patron’s tour, Javier García, who stressed that the attractions will be open until next Sunday 24, from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at the Cielo de San Pedro .
This afternoon the program of the fair will continue with the activities planned in El Cielo and the boulevard, and the attractions will continue until Sunday, with price reductions on the 20th, and two hours without noise for children with hypersensitivity, both this day and the 21st, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The mayor helps a young carrier who suffers an epilepsy crisis
Just at the beginning of the procession, when the figure of the Patron Saint had just left the Plaza de la Iglesia and received the floral offering, shouts began to be heard naming one of the bearers who had fallen to the ground, and to whom the mayor immediately went along with the rest of colleagues and authorities who were around.
According to the sources consulted at that time by this means, the young man had suffered an epilepsy crisis, and had to be quickly treated by Ángeles Muñoz, as a doctor. The ambulance was not long in arriving at the scene, from where he was taken while he was conscious and stable. “Our mayor has intervened as a doctor and the Emergency Service has acted quickly, and we hope that she is left alone in a scare,” said Javier García during the procession.
