
Crime in the province of Malaga during the first six months of 2021 has experienced a decrease of 9.59% with respect to the same period of 2019; while there is an increase of 17.5% compared to 2020, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, from January to June there have been 33,931 known criminal offenses.
Malaga capital registers the highest number of offenses, with 11,570 known in the first six months of the year; followed by Marbella, with 4,850; Fuengirola, with 2,064 infractions; Mijas, with 2,056; Torremolinos, with 1,979 crimes; Benalmádena, with 1,587; Estepona, with 1,534; and Vélez-Málaga, with 1,514 infractions.
This follows from the crime balance made public by the Ministry of the Interior, consulted by Europa Press, which details the criminal offenses recorded by the State Security Forces and Bodies throughout the Spanish territory in different periods of time.
The deputy delegate of the Government in Malaga, Javier Salas, has indicated that «2020 has been an atypical year as far as crime is concerned, in which practically the entire second quarter has been conditioned by the state of alarm from March 14 to June 21, with home confinement and the major restrictive measures in terms of both domestic and international tourist activity and movements ”.
For this reason, Salas has considered that «in the valid comparison period For the crime statistics that is established for the obvious reasons of the pandemic, with the year 2019 a decrease in crime is observed at a general level and in the main criminal types examined in the province.

Thus, with regard to the provincial level and in the first semester of 2021, there were registered 7,390 thefts, 34.28% less than in 2019 –And an 18.3% increase compared to 2020–; and there have been 1,712 robberies with force in homes and establishments, which represents a decrease of 27.79% compared to 2019 –and 5% over 2020–.
Have been accounted 1,221 robberies with fStrength at homes, with a decrease of 32.17% compared to 2019 –and 6.7% over 2020–. In addition, there have been 667 vehicle thefts, so it drops 22.26% compared to two years ago –and increases 32.1% over 2020–; and 560 robberies with violence and intimidation (-23.39% and + 14.5%, respectively).
As for the homicides and murders, eight perpetrators have been known in 2021, one less than in 2019 – five more than last year – and 15 in a degree of attempt – two more than two years ago and seven less than in 2020-. Likewise, in these six months there have been three kidnappings and 376 crimes of injuries and fights.
Criminal offenses for drug trafficking has been 556, therefore, they have increased by 12.10% compared to 2019 –and 18.8% over 2020–. Regarding the crimes against sexual freedom, there have been 269 known facts, a 3.86% increase compared to 2019 and 32.5% compared to 2020.
In general terms, Salas has indicated in statements to Europa Press that “we are talking about very positive data that place Malaga at levels of citizen security unprecedented in recent years.” “For this reason, we must congratulate the State Security Forces and Bodies for their magnificent work,” he said.
