The Town Hall of Estepona has convened for another year the International Poetry Prize ‘City of Estepona’, what is endowed with 6,000 euros and that it will be published by Pre-Textos, one of the publishers with the greatest prestige and presence in Spain and Latin America, as reported this Thursday by the mayor, José María García Urbano.
The councilor has stood out in the presentation of the cultural initiative, where he has been accompanied by the poet Alejandro Simón Partal, the bet that the City Council is making to promote culture and for linking the name of the city with the world of letters and with relevant artistic projects within the national and international scene.
He has also explained that the International Poetry Prize ‘City of Estepona’ has established itself as one of the most prominent nationally, both for the economic endowment as by the repercussion that has for the winning work to be published by one of the most important publishers in the Spanish language. In this sense, he recalled the success of the two previous editions, which received 863 and 1,500 manuscripts from many countries.
The mayor has also underlined the commitment of the City Council Estepona with the creators of the different artistic disciplines and with new talents, convinced that “culture is a determining factor for the quality of life and it is a fundamental axis in the sustainable, citizen-friendly and more humane city that we have been developing for more than a decade”.
For his part, he poet and novelist Alejandro Simón Partal, responsible for this literary contest, has announced its bases, which can be consulted on the municipal website www.estepona.es. The The jury’s decision will be made public on May 5, 2023., coinciding with the celebration in Estepona of ‘Poetry Day’. The period for receiving originals will open on January 27 and close at 3:00 p.m. on March 7.
The works will be free-themed, with a minimum length of 200 verses, with no maximum length limit, with freedom of typography, font size and spacing. They will be sent in PDF format to the following email address: premiointernacionalpoesia@estepona.es
In this edition the The president of the jury will be the Colombian poet and novelist Piedad Bonettone of the most interesting voices in Spanish-American narrative and with the greatest support from both the public and critics for works such as ‘Lo que no tiene nombre’ or ‘Los olvidados’, which won the International Prize for Poetry Generation of 27.
