The works of urban regeneration and beautification of the Glorieta Pedro Gil, one of the main access points and connection point between the western area of Marbella and the southern part of San Pedro, have culminated in a completely renovated new image, an action for which nearly 280,000 co-financed euros have been allocated, as announced this Thursday the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz.
The performance has included area landscaping with the planting of 20 units of trees, mainly native species, new paving and creating water elements“favoring its integration into the road space, after a treatment according to the place where it is located”.
The councilwoman, accompanied by the deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier García, and relatives of Pedro Gil, visited the roundabout after the completion of works, an initiative that responds to a neighborhood demand of the residents of the surroundings of El Ingenio given the state of deterioration in which this enclave was found.
Muñoz has indicated that the performance, developed on a area of 2,800 square meterscontemplated a commitment to green areas with the planting of tree species and sustainability with the implementation of 62 LED technology projectors ornamental lighting.
With this measure “we continue betting on energy efficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions, in addition to being a dissuasive element for the increase in speed”, pointed out the first mayor, who pointed out that this regeneration is also part of the traffic calming actions and increased road safety carried out by the City Council.
The mayor has highlighted that another of the outstanding elements in the enhancement of this roundabout is the inclusion of a flagpole, 25 meters high, in the central part of the roundabout, “by becoming one of the main connection points from the traditional neighborhood of El Ingenio.
Muñoz has detailed that the investment that the City Council has allocated to this project exceeds 278,000 eurosco-financed 80 percent by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within the framework of the Multiregional Operational Program 2014-2020, an action that is part of a broader operation of the EDUSI Marbella Strategy, Sustainable City Model, called ‘ Urban regeneration of disadvantaged areas of Marbella and San Pedro’, under which more than five million euros will be invested in the municipality.
