The Estepona City Council and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Spain have organized days of activities in the city, which will take place on October 22 and 23. The events will begin on the 22nd with the inauguration of the Plaza de Chequia, which will be attended by the mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, and the ambassador of the Czech Republic in Spain, Ivan Jančárek, among other personalities.
The Plenary of the Corporation agreed on the designation of a public space in the city with that name. Thus, this new square is part of the project that the Estepona City Council has been carrying out for a decade to modernize, remodel and beautify the city of Estepona. Specifically, the space is located on Avenida Juan Carlos I and has in its surroundings the Constitution Park and a garden area with a sculpture by the artist Santiago de Santiago.
The mayor has pointed out that this urban transformation has turned Estepona into a more sustainable, more cosmopolitan city that is committed to growth linked to culture and artistic creation. In this sense, the councilor has indicated that these days will serve to strengthen the bond between the two countries, also coinciding with the celebration in 2019 of the centenary of diplomatic relations between the two.
The days of activities include the projection of the film ‘Havel’ (2020) by director Slávek Horák, where the life of former Czech president Václav Havel is recounted.
