The Estepona Town Hall has awarded the works for the construction of a climbing wall in the city’s fair and sports park, a performance that will have an investment of 1,682,158.94 euros and an execution period of 6 months from the formalization of the act of reconsideration and start of work, as reported this Wednesday the Consistory.
This new facility, which will be the first of its kind in the area, will have the dimensions and functionalities that will allow, in addition to amateur sports, the national and international competitions of elite athletes. In this way, its construction will be carried out in compliance with the regulatory standards that make this compatibility of uses possible.
The wall-climbing wall will be built in accordance with the UNE EN 12572 standard, and is designed for the difficulty, speed and block modes. The structure will present two elevations for the development of sports activities of different heights, on which the loads defined by specialists in the field have been provided, complying with the applicable and specific regulations for this sporting activity.
The space will have an area of 662 square meters
It will have a full area of 662 square meters, which will be divided as follows for the practice of the different modalities provided in this discipline: speed zone (115 square meters), difficulty zone (363 square meters) and block zone (184 square meters). The space, which will be outdoors and will have a cover, can also be used at night because it will have a lighting system.
This action, which will be carried out by the company Sepisur XXI SL, will involve an investment of 1,682,158.94 euros, financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan-Funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU. The project is included in the framework of the extraordinary program of tourism sustainability in destinations 2021-2023 in its axis 4 competitiveness of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism of Estepona 2022-2024.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, explained that “new and interesting horizons are therefore opening up for this discipline, as well as we expand the sports offer in Estepona with first class facilities.
The councilor recalled that in the last 12 years Estepona has increased its sports facilities with important facilities such as the fair and sports park, where you can practice more than twenty disciplines for free throughout the year, the Athletics Stadium, which has become a benchmark at the Andalusian level, or the different tracks that have been created both in the neighborhoods and in the suburban residential areas.
