The Estepona City Council informs that the works for the widening of Juan Benítez street have already reached their final stretch.
The Deputy Mayor of the Development, Infrastructure and Tourism (FIT) area, Ana Velasco, has declared that this action, which is carried out in more than 75 percent, will allow two-way traffic in the entirety of this road and also it will improve the flow of traffic on the northern ring road.
These works, which are carried out in the upper part of the street, have a budget of 50,810 euros (VAT included) and were awarded to the company Filmar Conservación Industrial SL
As reported by the municipal official, the structure that narrowed the road and caused traffic congestion has already been demolished. In this way, it has been possible to double the surface of the road allowing double circulation. Also, the diversion of the affected drinking water, sanitation, electricity and telephone services has been carried out.
Likewise, Velasco has reported that, starting this week, they will proceed to the construction of a section of pavement and the asphalting of the part of the street in which they are working. In addition, gardening work will be carried out with the planting of tree species.
These works complement the actions carried out by the City Council in this sector, with the widening of Calle Guillermo Cabrera and the expansion of Calle Hermanos Machado.
All these actions are focused on decongesting an area that is experiencing great development and that supports a large influx of traffic because it is used as access to the Mar de Alborán institute, the National Police Station and the entire Calancha area environment.
Likewise, all these works are improving access to the northern ring road, which came into operation in January of last year after the construction of nine roads, totaling more than 1.6 kilometers in length.
In addition, it meant a wide provision of services in the north of the city, with the installation of electricity, water, telephone, public lighting and natural gas supplies, in addition to the creation of 455 free parking spaces, a new section of bike lane and almost 20,000 square meters of green and leisure spaces. With this infrastructure, it was possible to decongest and alleviate the road traffic that supports the central Andalusia avenue.
