The Plenary Session of the City Council Corporation of Estepona has initially approved the municipal budget for 2023 this Thursdaywhich stands at 109 million euros, where it is contemplated to allocate 15.4 million euros to pay the debt inherited during the next financial yearas reported this Thursday by the mayor, José María García Urbano.
The councilor highlightedthe rigor, seriousness and credibility of these accounts”, which consolidate the great transformation that the city has undergone in the last decade. In this way, the games are contemplated to continue with the projects committed to the electoral program and decisive for the configuration of the developed city model.
Specifically, the items for productive investments included in the budget are raised to €18.3 million. In this matter, García Urbano has pointed out that since he became mayor not a single loan has been requested to pay for investments or expenses and that all the works carried out have been paid for.
He also pointed out that it is a document with “a marked social character”where the economic amounts linked to aid and social programs for the most vulnerable groups continue to be “expandable”, that is, they will be “unlimited” and may be increased according to the needs that arise during the financial year.
These are amounts for complement the urban revitalization project with the culmination of remodeling of the avenue of Spain and the attached promenadein its two sections in progress, which will open the city to the sea and create a ‘Balcony to the Mediterranean’ with a wide landscaped pedestrian boulevard that incorporates a lookout building, which will house a large library and study spaces, a conservatory of music, an auditorium for cultural events, a relevant exhibition room and a viewpoint that, without a doubt, will become another significant element of attraction for visitors.
It will continue with municipal parking plan of 1 euro per day of cost for the user who, after the completion of the Chess environment parking, contemplates starting the works of the underground car park in the surroundings of the Iglesia del Carmenwith capacity for more than 300 seats.
Likewise, items are included for the completion and maintenance of the coastal corridor project that is uniting the entire maritime front and whose execution exceeds 90%. Also, resources are allocated for the continuity of the remodeling and beautification process of the urban centerwhich already has more than 130 renovated streets in all its infrastructures.
In the investment sectionthe budget includes the improvement of public facilities, the creation of green areas with the new Parque de Las Mesas and new playgrounds; the conservation and acquisition of materials for beaches and gardens and the maintenance of educational centers and nursery schools.
On the other hand, citizen security is reinforced to continue improving the material resources of the Local Police and Civil Protection; as well as with the allocation of items to cover the public call for nine agent positions.
In social matters, the municipal accounts contemplate an amount of almost 10 million euros for programs, grants and initiatives aimed at supporting citizens who are in a situation of vulnerability, highlighting the economic item of 3.64 million euros for home helpwhich has increased by more than 1 million euros.
Also included are resources for social emergency aid, which will be unlimited, being granted to all those who are in the corresponding situation to be a beneficiary. On the other hand, it is considered allowances for economic and family aid; as well as for other programs promoted by Social Welfare.
Another relevant aspect included in the 2023 budget is the continuation of the payment of the debt of 304 million euros inherited in June 2011, for what is contemplated allocate 15.4 million euros during the next financial year so that this debit is reduced to 35 million euros, which will imply having paid almost 90% of the debt by the end of 2023.
