The XXII International Fantastic Film Week of the Costa del Sol will be held at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center and Felipe VI Auditorium in Estepona from September 5 to 11, with parallel activities in Benahavís, Marbella and Malaga capital.
During the inauguration of the film contest, on Sunday, September 5, at 8:00 p.m., in the Felipe VI Auditorium, the cantaora Estrella Morente, who will act as godmother of this edition of the festival, it will present the fiction short film ‘La clave’, which stars alongside Fele Martínez, accompanied by the film’s director Rafael Robles, Rafatal, the singer Antonio Cortés, co-star of the film, as well as the actress Laura Baena Torres .
The gala will open U-Talent School of Performing Arts!, with one of the pieces from ‘The Greatest Showman’, performed by the Malaga actor and singer with a long history, Pablo Puyol, director and artistic coaching of the school, along with other teachers and students.
At this gala, the film in which he stars will also be presented, ‘La mancha negra ‘, a Marila Films production directed by Enrique García, and he will be presented with the 2021 ‘MMCSO’ Special Jury Prize, which is carried out in collaboration with the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol.
The central theme of this edition of the festival, ‘Weird Western’, will give rise to enjoy with the presentation of the commemorative book ‘Weird Western: Cinema of the West without borders’, on Monday, September 6, at 8:00 p.m.
For his part, the writer from Jaén Pablo Castillo Villar will present on Tuesday 7, at 8:00 p.m., at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, ‘The killer in the mask’ and ‘Dead end’.
The Castillo de San Luis will put the legend of the ghost of the daughter of the Warden Antonio de Berrio, who ruled Estepona back in the early 16th century, with ‘El Pasaje del Terror’ by Escudero Andante Teatro and the ‘Farándula’ theater group from the municipal delegation of Culture, directed by Luque. The passage can be visited on Thursday 9 and Friday 10, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The activities parallel to the festival will be completed with the ‘XI Gastronomic Days 2021’.
Finally, the Civitas Musicae String Orchestra, developed by the International Center of Excellence for String of the García Fajer Foundation, will perform a concert for the benefit of the Spanish Association Against Cancer of Marbella, on Thursday 9, at 8:30 p.m., at the Goya Theater Cinemas in Puerto Banús, whose Thematic will revolve around film music.
What culmination, the film ‘Back to the Future III’ will be screened, in which Marty McFly will have to go back to 1885, to the time of the Wild West, to rescue his friend Doc.
Activities of the XXII Fantastic Film Week
In relation to exhibitions, the XXII Fantastic Film Week advances its programming with ‘El arte de Nacho Fernández’, Azpiri Award 2021 for the best cartoonist, from September 1 to 15, at the Casa de las Tejerinas in Estepona.
The projections of the XXII International Fantastic Film Week of the Costa del Sol will be divided into several categories: in the Official Section seven films from different nationalities will compete ‘La mancha negra’, ’10 Palomas’, ‘El cementerio de los almas perdidas’, ‘On the 3rd day’, ‘The game of 100 candles’, ‘Frank & Zed’ and ‘Carver’.
Also, the Parallel Section ‘Weird Western’, which will include the screening of ‘Tremors 4’, ‘Django Unchained’, ‘Back to the Future III’, ‘The Valley of Gwangi’ and ‘Westworld: Metal Souls’; Short Films Section; and ‘Selecta Visión’ with the four best Japanese anime productions loaned for the festival by this distributor: ‘Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna’, ‘The white snake’, ‘Millenium Actress’ and ‘Seven Days War’, which will be screened at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.
The closing gala It will take place on Saturday the 11th, at 8:00 p.m., in the Felipe VI Auditorium, presented by the comedian actor Chema Fuentes, they have explained.
By way of opening, the short ‘Memories of Blood’ directed by the director Manu Vera, with Ramón Langa and the newcomer Nuria Canto, will be presented. The film revolves around ‘Weird Western’, and has been shot at the Oasys MiniHollywood studios, in the Almeria town of Tabernas.
Then the ‘Unicorn Awards’ to the award-winning films in the Official Selection in the sections of Best Film, Direction, Interpretation, Screenplay, Special Effects, Photography, David Geary Award for Best Music and Best Short Film.
The gala will be enlivened by the Civitas Musicae String Orchestra, developed by the International String Center of Excellence of the García Fajer Foundation, which will delight attendees with musical pieces from mythical genre film titles and others on the festival’s main theme.
Among the honorees this year at the XXII International Fantastic Film Week of the Costa del Sol, the jury has decided to deliver the ‘Unicorn of Honor’ to actor Jaime Blanch.
The film competition will also deliver the Special Unicorn Award to the actress and director Asia Argento.
On his visit to the Costa del Sol, Asia Argento will present his autobiography, ‘Anatomy of a Wild Heart’ on Sunday, September 12, at 5:00 p.m., in the Auditorium of the Russian Museum Collection, in Malaga, and then the film ‘El Síndrome de Stendhal’ by Dario Argento will be screened.
Nacho Fernández will receive the ‘AZPIRI’ Award for Best Illustrator 2021. The Award for the Best TV Series 2021 ‘La TV es Fantástica’ will go to the Spanish television superproduction ’30 Monedas’, a fantastic series written by Alex de la Iglesia and his regular co-writer, Jorge Guerricaechevarría.
During the closing ceremony, the Special Jury Prize 2021 the actor, director and musician from Valladolid, Fernando Cayo. The ASFAAN 2021 award will also be presented at this gala, which this year will go to the Malaga actress María Barranco.
The attendance to all film screenings, conferences, publications and other activities of the festival, it will be totally free, until completing limited capacity, according to sanitary recommendations.
