The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, today presented the cycling tour to Peñas Blancas, to be held in the town this Sunday August 28, being an activity that coincides with the twelfth stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España through the citywhich will culminate with a spectacular climb to Los Reales de Peñas Blancas.

The first mayor has referred to the playful and non-competitive nature of the test, which will be an opportunity for fans of cycling, a sustainable sport that promotes healthy lifestyles.

The participants will carry out a 23-kilometre route, which will be practically the same as that carried out by the runners of La Vuelta in our municipality, enjoying the uniqueness and toughness that the peloton will go through next September 1, especially in the ascent to Peñas Blancas, this time, to the top of Los Reales.

This port is second most difficult mountain of the entire competitionwith a maximum slope of 15% and a drop of 1,239 meters. It must be remembered that Peñas Blancas became in 2013 the first arrival of La Vuelta al Alto in the history of the province of Malaga.

The councilor highlighted the promotion that the City Council of Estepona carries out of the bicycle as a sport and leisure activity; as well as a sustainable means of transport. In this sense, he has also recalled the solidarity initiative launched together with the cyclist Luis Ángel Maté, that will contribute to the recovery of Sierra Bermeja. The cyclist from Malaga has explained that he will donate a tree for each kilometer of escape that he achieves during his participation in La Vuelta.

The March cyclist already has more than a hundred registered fans, whose participation is free and the application will remain open until Friday, August 26, which can be done at the municipal delegation of Sport and Youth (Carmen pavilion), by phone 952802444 or by email at sports@estepona.es.
