The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, the president of the Estepona Athletics Club, Luis de la Haza and the representative of the ‘Paula y la Fábrica de Marrow’ Foundation, Inocencio Alarcón, today presented the IX Urban Race 10 kilometers of Estepona, which will be held on October 9.
The councilor has highlighted that this sporting event has been consolidated at the provincial level and has indicated that the 800 runners who participate in this edition will once again enjoy an attractive itinerary.
This is how they will travel through the main avenues of the city, the seafront, sections of the coastal corridor and some streets of the old town. Both the entrance and the exit will be from the Municipal Athletics Stadium.
In addition to a 10-kilometer race, that same morning another 5-kilometer race will be held for families or people who are just starting out as athletes, or who want to enjoy this experience.
As usual, the IX Urban Race will celebrate the day before, Saturday October 8, a Race for Minors at the Municipal Athletics Stadium. There will be different distances depending on the category (from junior to cadet). According to the organization, the participation of 400 children is expected in the different races that are held that day.
Also, highlight the charitable nature of this sporting event. This year the participants of the Minors Race will be able to donate 1 kilo of food that will be donated to the Estepona Social Dining Room.
On the other hand, any participant can donate clothing and sports shoes so that the Estepona Athletics Club can deliver them to the NGO Fundación Solidaria Luna Nueva, which carries out part of its work in Senegal.
Lastly, the Estepona Athletics Club will deliver the proceeds from the Minors’ Race to the NGO ‘Paula y la Fábrica de Marrow’, which cares for families in Estepona who have a minor with leukemia.
The councilor thanked the Estepona Athletics Club for its involvement with sports in the city and for maintaining a sports event that makes our municipality a benchmark for athletes in the province and Andalusia. In addition, he has pointed out that Estepona is a city that facilitates the practice of sport, with more and more open-air public spaces where you can enjoy the different disciplines.
Those interested in registering can do so through the page www.dorsalchip.es. The representative of the Athletics Club of Estepona, José Juárez, has indicated that this year, as a novelty, on said website there will be a ground zero for people who cannot participate in the races to collaborate with the different causes of solidarity.
