The councilor attached to the Sports and Youth delegation, José Antonio Bandera, and the president of the Friends of Fishing Club ‘Playas de Estepona’, Juana María Ductor, today presented the I Open Mar-Costa Playas de Estepona for sport fishing that will be held in the city on Sunday, October 23.

The municipal representative has declared that it is always a great satisfaction to hold competitions that have our coastline as the protagonist. In addition, he thanked the Friends of Fishing Club ‘Playas de Estepona’ for launching this initiative, which is another attraction for fans of the art of fishing and will surely become a must for fans of this modality.

Also, Juana María Ductor, has declared that this initiative was born with the aim of promoting rod fishing from the shore, a modality called ‘surfcasting’. In addition, she explained that the competition will start at 10:00 am and will take place between the La Cala river and La Escollera beach, with a forecast of some 80 participants from different parts of Andalusia. It will be under the supervision of a judge from the Andalusian Federation of Sport Fishing and the control of the Junta de Andalucía.

According to the program, after the end of the test, the catches will be collected and transferred to the Municipal Booth where they will be weighed.

The prizes will be 1,000 euros for the first classified, 500 euros for the second and the third will be able to choose a gift. Also, the largest piece will be given a Serrano ham and with the intention of encouraging female participation, a prize of 100 euros has been established among the competitors. The rest of the participants will receive gifts in order of position obtained while supplies last. In addition, at the end of the delivery of prizes and gifts, there will be a raffle for a kayak among all the participants, a donation from Náutica and Droguería Ramírez.
