The Mediterranean avenue of San Pedro Alcántarain Marbella, has premiered a new park with walkable fountain inspired by the baptismal font of the Basilica Vega del Mar, as announced on Thursday by the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz.

This has been highlighted by the councilor in a visit she has made to the area where she has been accompanied by the deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier García, valuing that the performance “has been able to make a very important nod to some of the heritage jewelry of the city” and highlighted the new image and improved accessibility of a road that connects the center with the Paseo Marítimo. The councilor recalled that “previously there was a boat that she had to replace because it suffered serious deterioration due to the weather conditions of so many years outdoors.”

“We wanted to evoke in this area, which is a connecting link between north and southr, the Roman past of San Pedro, which has a unique site at an international level”, pointed out the first mayor, who has stressed that views have improved and perspectives of the boulevard towards the Avenida del Mediterráneo, “eliminating unevenness and architectural barriers and giving greater continuity to the central promenade”.

Also, he explained that the pavement has been renewedcurb sections have been removed, a new pluvial network has been created and supply and irrigation have been expandedfor the planters, and public lighting for the new ornamental lighting.

For his part, the architect of the project, Andrés Manuel Mateo, has elaborated that the new source, which offers a unique experience around its water jets, “allows you to cross it and enjoy the space, reminding the underwater immersion in the baptismal font”.

“We wanted to show that this is a very cultural city”, he stated, while alluding to the fact that “now there is a visual continuity that was previously blocked with the boat”. The action has been completed with a central wooden walkway with rest areas protected from the sun.
