The Malaga hoteliers have asked public administrations to be sensitive to the increase experienced in recent months in the energy costs, which is why they demand to lower the price of the megawatt to 15 euros for next year so that the establishments are profitable, according to the president of the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos), José Luque.

This has been highlighted by the business representative in some conference on energy management in hotel establishments held at the El Fuerte hotel in Marbella, in which the territorial delegate of Tourism of the Board in Malaga, Nuria Rodríguez, the mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz and the head of the sustainability area of the Hotel Technological Institute (ITH), Coralia Pino.

Luque has shown his surprise at “the dynamics that hotels are having with the price of energy”In preparing the budgets for next year, remembering that 7 years ago“ we started from 3 euros per megawatt, we went to 10 in 2019 and this year already We are going in a race that goes for 20 euros, even in October we are at 21 ”.

In this sense, he has valued that the most optimistic predictions for next year “tell us that the megawatt can be 15 euros, but the worst of all is that there is hotel companies that have negotiated fixed prices in their day, for example at 60 euros per megawatt, and the electricity companies have skipped it and are overwhelmed by the situation ”.

“We are in a unprecedented panorama for hotel companies”, Highlighted Luque, who stressed that“ we are large consumers of electricity ”, as well as criticized that“diesel and gas prices are skyrocketing ”.

The hotelier has pointed out that the Aehcos objective “is sustainability, but fundamentally economic. We can’t be sustainable if we are not profitable and we cannot be profitable if we do not have measures that make us more efficient and effective like technology ”, he remarked.

For this reason, Luque has urged the administration to “be sensitive to this circumstance “and hopes that”the megawatt next year is 15 euros and lower the 21 in which we are currently “.
