The City Council of Marbella has completed the municipal processing of the specific modification of elements of the General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) to develop the URP-AL6 sector ‘Las dunas club’ -which will house the five-star Grand Luxury hotel W-, with the unanimous approval of the political groups of the Plenary of the Corporation of the referral to the Junta de Andalucía documentation and sectoral reports.

As explained by the Councilor for Territory Planning, María Francisca Caracuel, the agreement “puts an end to the processing of the punctual modification of elementswhich was the first to be processed after adapting the PGOU of 1986 to the Andalusian Urban Planning Law (LOUA).

The mayor has recalled that the Plenary has already carried out the initial approval of this modification in 2018 and the provisional last February, noting that the definitive green light corresponds to the Junta de Andalucía. Specifically, “this technical documentation and the latest sectoral -reports- with the lifting of the condition and the referral” to the Andalusian Government have been approved, has indicated.

Caracuel has highlighted the importance of the modification, since it will imply the promotion of a hotel project such as the construction of the five-star Grand Luxury W hotel. The document acts on “an area of more than 100,000 square meters in the Alicate area”.

Also in urban matters, the Plenary has unanimously approved a proposal to disaggregate the review of the PGOU of Marbella in two new procedures as established by the new Law to Promote the Sustainability of the Andalusian Territory (LISTA) and continue processing in accordance with the regulations. In this sense, one of the procedures will be for the processing and approval of the General Municipal Planning Plan (PGOM) and another for the Urban Planning Plan (POU).

In the section on urgent motions, a motion of the popular ones defended by the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, who has lamented the interpellation that he carried out last Tuesday in the Senate with the Minister for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, and who, as she has indicated, went to Madrid to “find out the deadlines and budget commitment” from the central government to carry out beach stabilization projects.

“The minister said no to the breakwaters and that she is going to return legality to the promenade” that Gil built 30 years ago, Muñoz has highlighted about a project published in the Official State Gazette on May 5, 2021, and that according to the mayor “aims to demolish the Paseo de Albero, occupy beach bars, set back hotels” and that would affect “4 kilometers of promenade” that he has branded as “a real nonsense”.

In this way, the motion presented by the PP requests that “the groynes project is unlocked and give the environmental reports”, as well as ” an absolute rejection of the demolition of the promenade and that some works carried out 30 years ago be legalized in the public interest”, a measure that is contemplated in the allegations presented to the project by the Consistory, in addition to “rendering without effect the project presented aimed at outlawing the promenade” and that “The modification of the basic project is agreed so that the conservation of the existing promenade is contemplated and in the event that there is a specific point that can be occasionally reached by the sea, the piling is studied.”
