The construction works of the first public residence for the elderly in Trapiche del Prado of Marbella have already started, with a lead time of 14 months and a total investment of 10 million euros, as announced on Monday by the mayoress, Ángeles Muñoz.
The councilor has highlighted in a visit that she has made to the works that despite the complexity of the entire process, “the city will have this important and necessary equipment, which in two phases will house a total of 150 users, in addition to the rehabilitation of the historic building as an interpretation center”.
Muñoz, accompanied by the councilors for Works, Diego López, and Social Rights, Isabel Cintado, indicated that “today is a memorable day for the municipality” and added that “it is also fulfills the wish that the Mateo Álvarez family had from the beginning for the creation of these facilities on this plot ceded for this purpose”.
In this sense, he recalled that “in In 2010 the work was already awarded to a company that, finally, due to the crisis could not undertake the construction”. “However, we continue with the decision intact, promoting other actions on the plot with a view to the executionfinally of the works, which have already started”, he pointed out.
The performance, which has a total budget of 10 million euros, distributed between the residence itself (6 million) and the interpretation center (4 million co-financed with the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), within the framework of the Multiregional Operational Program of Spain 2014-2020), is carried out in a area of 8,000 square meters.
In the case of facilities for the elderlywill be developed in two phases, highlighting the first in which they will create two new buildings, with more than 40 rooms to accommodate about a hundred users, to which another 25 will be added, in a second phase, reaching the total number of 150 people.
Both buildings will have double and single rooms, with bathrooms and other rooms, reception and waiting area for visitors, kitchen, dining room, laundry and linen space, common areas and living rooms, as well as sections for specialized care and nursing. In addition, the residence will comply with the requirements of the regulations of the Junta de Andalucía for enable the concertation of places with the regional administration.
As for the interpretation Center, will be located in the old Trapiche del Prado, with an informative nature, in which its origin will be valued. “We are in front of a historic building, included in the General Catalog of Andalusian Historical Heritage and considered as one of the greatest references of the sugar factories of yesteryear”, explained Muñoz, who stressed that its main elements will be rehabilitated, such as the aqueduct, the wooden roofs and slabs and the blood mill, a unique piece due to its uniqueness and architectural value.
