The Marbella City Council has commissioned a diagnostic study on the situation of the old town and the center of the city, whose purpose is to design strategies for the future to enhance the commercial and tourist attractiveness of these spaces, as announced this Monday by the municipal spokesman, Félix Romero.
The study has been prepared by a specialized company through a “minor contract”, which is why “it has cost less than 18,000 euros”, said the mayor, who stressed that it was motivated by “the obligation that we assumed in its day in the plan to boost commerce.” To this he has added “the concern about the impact that Covid-19 could have on a sector as important as the commercial sector and the interest that is aroused in the tourism field.”
Among the objectives, Romero has underlined the “Optimize that resource” in relation to the brand and image of the city, ensuring as one of the strengths of the productive fabric “the ability of the business of Marbella to resist the onslaught of reality and how it can be replenished at a given moment.”
“We have to use the excellence and optimization of that resource, in such a way that all the benefits it can bring to our commercial fabric are implemented, achieved and that image not only stays here, but is transferred abroad ”, highlighted the municipal official.
As he has pointed out, the study is part of an “action plan” for the next few years that has begun with the realization of “a SWOT analysis of weaknesses and threats and on the same to try to involve all the interlocutors to optimize a resource that is very strong, but that we cannot allow it to never stop being so ”.
The next step “will be analyze this diagnosis in the company of the sectors involved“As are the associations of merchants and users” before the end of the first quarter “and” from there develop a series of strategies with timetables that have to be extended over time.
In this way, Romero has ruled out advancing the results of the study to the press until the meetings with social agents are held, although he has indicated that the threats have been detected “Geographical dispersion” of the city and the difficulty of parking in the area or the “dispersion of supply”. In this sense, it is committed to “a common leap towards new technologies” and the use of digital tools for communication.
