The Town Hall of Marbella presented this Thursday, on the second day of the Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur), its commitment to major sporting events for 2023which highlights the municipal “effort” and private agents to make a calendar, as highlighted by the councilor for the branch, Manuel Cardeña.
The mayor has highlighted the advanced appointments, among which is the World Padel Tour, the Rhythmic Gymnastics Grand Prix or the Spanish Women’s Golf Open, which “demonstrate the work and effort of both the City Council and private agents to once again put together a top-level agenda for the city.”
Among the presentations, on Thursday’s session, the this year’s edition of the Half Marathonwhich will take place on October 1 and in which the councilor has highlighted that “95 percent of the tour will go by the sea, highlighting one of our great attractions and configuring this test as one of the most relevant events on the sports agenda of the municipality”.
Details of the next World Padel Tour from Marbellaan event that another year will have the best rackets on the international circuit and that represents an economic impact of 1.5 million euros for the municipality. Specifically, it will take place from May 29 to June 4 and the tracks will be installed in Marbella Arena.
Marbella will also be the stage on April 15 and 16 of the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying matchesa main competition for women’s tennis teams that will face Spain and Mexico in Puente Romano.
On the other hand, it has been presented VIII edition of the Sierra Blanca Mountain Race, which will be held on February 11 in the municipality and which will bring together, under the organization of the Ultra Trail Sierra Blanca Sports Club, more than 1,000 participants in three distances of 42, 29 and 16 kilometers, approximately. As a novelty for this year, it will become the first test of the Spanish Cup.
Another of the appointments presented in the framework of Fitur has been the new edition of the 3×3 Herbalife, repeating Marbella again as venue of this basketball tournament and with dates scheduled for June 16 and 17.
Next March, between the 10th and 12th, another edition of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Grand Prix at the Elena Benítez Pavilion in San Pedro Alcántara, “a sporting event that once again will bring together the best gymnasts in the world in our city”, pointed out Cardeña, who announced the remodeling of the Specialized Technification Center of this discipline in Marbella, as another prominent project on the horizon.
Golf will return to the city again this year with the Women’s Spanish Openin an appointment that will be held the last week of November at the Club de Las Brisas and that will put the finishing touch to a year of the highest level in this discipline, with the Solheim Cup as the main event on the Costa del Sol.
Likewise, the mayor has reported that the championship of cross fit ‘Marbella Championship’ will repeat this year with a new appointment from October 6 to 8, remaining the first licensed event of this discipline in southern Spain and with the objective of bringing together more than 1,000 participants.
In March, the first weekend, the tests of the fourth edition of ‘The One’ circuitboth in the discipline of golf and paddle tennis, an already consolidated competition, which seeks the best players amateur and encourage practice of these two sports in the municipality.
In addition, Marbella will once again be headquarters of four tests of the youth tennis circuit, sponsored by the newspaper Marca, a championship that also starts in March and has the support of the Spanish Tennis Federation. And lastly, the second edition of World Padel Soccer, which will take place from June 15 to 17, will feature more soccer stars, new venues and events.
