Marbella is the only Spanish enclave that will opt for Best European Destination 2022, as announced on Monday by the mayor of the city, Ángeles Muñoz.
Marbella’s candidacy, which has been selected along with twenty other destinations among more than 400 proposals, will have to be measured with “top-level cities” such as London, Athens, Prague, Rome, Istanbul, Lucerne, Crete or Bavaria, Muñoz detailed.
This is a recognition granted by the European Best Destinations travel website in association with the platform for the exchange of good practices in tourism of the European Commission, Eden Network”.
Between the aspects most valued by visitors include the quality of life, the climate, the possibility of playing sports, gastronomy, the complementary offer around leisure, health or shopping, the councilor has specified.
“Just the fact of having come this far is a great achievement for the municipality, since It will mean a promotion that will reach more than 420 million travelers”, specified Muñoz, who highlighted “the magnificent work” carried out in this regard by the Tourism delegation.
The twenty finalist destinations will be published both on this platform dedicated to tourism -one of the most visited in Europe- as well as in media associated with it such as Forbes USA, Condé Nast Travelers, Geo, National Geographic, Yahoo or Corriere Viaggi, among others, which is a “great promotion”.
Thus, according to a report on the impact of the nomination of being Best Europe Destination” in previous editions, in the case of Dinant (Belgium), which ranked number 13, had a tourist growth of more than 25% compared to the previous year and estimated the economic impact at more than 15 million euros, he underlined.
The increase in visitors in cities such as Bordeaux, Milan, Porto, Budapest, Zagreb, when they have been part of this selection, they have reached between 13 and 41 percent, added the councilor, who encouraged citizens to vote online for Marbella.
