The municipality of Mijas Easter has closed with 77% hotel occupancyregistering some of the lodgings until “99 and 93% during the Bridge”, thus exceeding all forecasts, as announced on Thursday by the mayor of Tourism, José Carlos Martín.

This has been highlighted by the councilor in a balance he has made of the Passion Week, pointing out that these figures “confirm that the destination continues to grow and we are going approaching those 2019 data that we intend to at least equal”.

On the other hand, the national tourist has once again been the great protagonist in visits to the tourist offices of Mijas, reaching almost 64% of the totalwhich shows that the advertising campaigns launched by the department to attract the local public are having an effect.

“The national visitor is being faithful to our destiny and it grows every year, in fact, since 2019 it has increased by 24 percentage points, being essential in the 2020 and 2021 seasons”, the first deputy mayor has specified. Meanwhile, according to Martin, “the international traveler is growing more timidly, being the British public the first of the rankingfollowed by the Benelux countries”.

The Consistory presented in the last edition of the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (Fitur) during Holy Week in Mijas as an unavoidable meeting point in these days of Passion within the best destinations to spend these holidays. Visitors have also been able to launch the ‘Selfie Route’an initiative launched by the council for this high season.

“This campaign helps us to project ourselves even more in our country completing the momentum that has earned us to lead outstanding rankings at a national level”, pointed out the first deputy mayor, who has detailed examples such as “the appointment of the city in 2022 as ‘Capital of Rural Tourism in Malaga’ and in 2021 be part of the 20 best rural destinations on the coast of Spain. To this is added that the well-known eBooking tourist accommodation website highlighted Mijas as one of the destinations with the highest growth last year, increasing its searches by 69 percent”.
