The City Council of Mijas will modify the Rent Aid Ordinance launched by the Social Services area, whose changes will come into force from next May to favor this type of subsidy and simplify the administrative process, as announced on Monday by the councilor responsible for the area, Hipólito Zapico.

The mayor stressed that “we have increased the Public Indicator of Income of Multiple Effects (Iprem) to adapt this scale to the new realities and encourage more people to access this aid, in addition to extend the rental section up to 700 euros per month for large families of five members or more”.

Zapico added that “there has also been modified the registration requirementpassing from 3 to 5 years and from now on only bank receipts will be accepted and monthly receipts of cash payments cannot be presented”, which “must include the quantity, the concept, the monthly payment and to whom it is addressedwhich must be submitted together with the application and may not be prior to 12 months maximum to the date” of the same.

With these modifications, this ordinance of 2018 “adapts to the changing circumstances of our society”, Zapico has assured, who wanted to underline that with her “procedures are simplified and undesirable situations are avoided through greater control of supporting documents”.

Thus, these aids, which are granted in a single benefit, are intended to defray the expenses related to the rental income of the habitual residence. As outlined, the amount of aid to be granted per economic unit of coexistence will be 50% of monthly rent that they must pay for the rent of their habitual residence, with a maximum limit of 3,600 euros per year, “and as of this year, as a novelty, 4,200 euros in the case of dwellings with five members or more”.

It should be remembered that in the past year about 300 families from Mijas benefited from these aids, to which almost half a million euros were allocated. The new modification of the Rent Aid Ordinance of the Mijas Town Hall will come into force from next May and will only may be submitted once a yearalthough its call is open during the 12 months of the same.
