The City Council of Mijas has put out to tender the construction works of the multipurpose building, the therapeutic pool, the children’s area and the new entrances to the Regino Hernández Martín Sports City for an amount of 4.4 million euros, a decision taken after the work had been paralyzed due to “the breach of the contract of the previous winning company ”, as announced this Tuesday by the mayor, Josele González.

The councilor valued that “fortunately the sports city that all laguneros and laguneras deserve is closer to being a reality after months of paralysis, thanks to the exit to public contracting of the continuation ”of the work, recalling that “completing the works of this sports center is a commitment of this government team.”

Along the same lines, the first deputy mayor and mayor of Works, José Carlos Martín, has stated that “in parallel to the administrative litigation maintained between the City Council and the first awardee, as well as the penalties that must be filed against said company for the damage caused to all the residents of Mijas in the delay of these infrastructures; the department has taken the opportunity to include a series of improvements requested from the sports area that were not contemplated in the original project ”. Likewise, it has reported that the works “could begin in summer and have an execution period of 14 months.”

For his part, the head of Contracting, Roy Pérez, has stated that “the Statement is already on the public sector contract platform and the deadline for submitting offers will be open until January 24 at 7 pm “, so it has invited all those companies that are interested in” submitting their offers for this emblematic work in our municipality that will provide a solution to the sporting needs of the lagoons and the lagoons ”.

New facilities

It is a surface area of ​​1,700 square meters divided into three spaces. On the one hand, the multipurpose building (800 meters), on the other, the therapeutic pool (400 meters) and, finally, the children’s area (500 meters) will be remodeled.

The building has a ground floor distribution plus two Where the different classrooms designed for low intensity exercises (Pilates, the elderly, muscle toning, among others) will be distributed, as well as the changing rooms, showers, material storage areas and bathrooms, all adapted for people with reduced mobility.

The therapeutic pool will be covered and will have a dimension of around 20 meters long by 6 meters wide, with a depth of between 1 meter and 1.20 meters, in addition the temperature will be between 30 and 32 degrees. At the same time, various adapted costumes will be established and separated by gender.
