The councilor has highlighted that “this combination of factors makes us especially unique for all those tourists who love the rural environment who see in our town the essence of this type of experience”, highlighting that “in the last two years we have grown in this segment, which is working very well in Mijas for what we want strengthen and promote it because it moves the national and international market”.
Gonzñalez added that “the municipality has already been considered one of the leading destinations in Spain for coastal rural tourism, in addition to ‘Country Capital 2022’ from the province of Malaga.
For his part, the Councilor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín, stressed that “the rural tourist who comes to Mijas can make a hiking route in the Sierrastroll along the coastal path to also enjoy the sea, delight in the Andalusian white town and its artistic and historical complex, as well as pamper your palate with good traditional food and buy handmade products with all kinds of artisan techniques, many of which are hardly used in other geographical locations”. In the words of the councilor “in Mijas you can live all kinds of experiences and sensations typical of rural tourism.”
Both municipalities have highlighted that “the commitment to rural tourism is also given by the work that the department is doing to combat seasonality, since this segment receives visitors during the 365 days of the year helping consumption, boosting the economy and maintaining jobs”.
The delegation of Tourism of Mijas is holding within the framework of Fitur various promotional actionsone of them being meetings with portals specialized in rural tourism. “This type of website offers all the information related to this segment and has a very loyal and large audience. That is why we want to reach these potential visitors and work hand in hand with these professionals who can make the destination known”, González pointed out.
Thus, an important fact has been put on the table, which is that rural tourism has grown five points in the last two years, which makes it more in vogue every day. In Mijas 46 rural houses and 87 tourist homes are registered rural as well as the rest of accommodation and hotels.
