The Mijas Town Hall will start the works of the Great Park of the Costa del Sol at the beginning of May, some works that have been awarded for 22.6 million euros to the company Vías y Construcciones SA and TT and EXC Arroyo and that have an execution period of 18 months, as reported this Thursday by the mayor, Josele Gonzalez.

“We are before the lung of the Costa del Solin one of the most ambitious projects in our city, where some 20,000 plants and some 2,000 trees and shrubs will be housed in 360,000 square meters,” said the councilor.

González has pointed out that space will be “a green mass with a navigable lake and other areas of leisure, culture and sports as a skate parkan auditorium, areas for running and much more, in what will be a reference park not only in our city, but in the entire province and which will also be among the most important in Andalusia”.

For his part, the Councilor for Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín, has valued “the work carried out by municipal technicians in a project of such magnitude that it has required almost seven years of effort and many setbacks that the City Council has had to solve”.

“This is the most ambitious project in Mijas so far and it is still in the sustainable development line that we are promoting in the city where in the last eight years we have launched 11 parks. It is about 36 hectares where the residents of Mijas will find nature, sports, culture, leisure and tranquility, with spaces for all ages and all tastes”, he highlighted.

The space will be developed on 360,000 square meters

The Great Park of the Costa del Sol will be located in the area of ​​’El Hogadero’ and will have almost 360,000 square meters of expansion. This will be the largest park in the province of Malaga and, with 36 hectares, joins the largest in Andalusia, such as the María Luisa Park in Seville (34 hectares) and the Moret Park in Huelva (72 hectares).

The new park of Las Lagunas de Mijas includes the requests that the neighbors have requested through a participatory email and the drawing and writing contest carried out in schools in Mijas (all of which have been able to technically adapt).

The project also includes a outdoor amphitheater where concerts or plays can be organized, among other shows, as well as large gardens and forests can be seen as well as a running track on the perimeter, bike path and skating, skate park or a climbing wall, among others.

This recreation area is only a kilometer and a half away from the center of the urban nucleus, so it will be fully accessible on foot for the neighbors. In the geotechnical studies appeared archaeological remains of great historical and heritage value that have been recovered to incorporate them into the initiative and have an archaeological site area.
