begin the evictions in Alhaurín de la Torre and el Grande for the fire that started this afternoon in the Sierra of Mijas. Are preventive and affect more than 1,000 neighbors. Among them, they are proceeding with the eviction of the urbanizations Lauro Golf, Jarapalos and Llanos de la Plata, in Alhaurín de la Torre; and Buenavista, in the Great.
“It’s just that I don’t trust it, the fire was two kilometers away and with the wind it is approaching the houses of Lauro Golf”, said the mayor of Alhaurin de la Torre, Joaquin Villanova. The nine-hole golf course in the area is helping to stop it, but due to the strong wind that is blowing, the eviction has been chosen as a precaution.
According to the councilman, the flames were directed from Mijas towards Alhaurín de la Torre, but they have begun to deviate towards the limit with Alhaurín el Grande. In this town, its mayor, Antonia Ledesma, has also confirmed the eviction of the Buenavista urbanization. In this municipality, it is approached through the area of Ardalejos.
Villanova is already talking about the fire being “deliberate” because “has several foci”. “It could have been intentional because it presents several fronts,” he insisted. The troops are working in the area to neutralize it and prevent it from going down to Pinos de Alhaurín, where 7,000 people live.
Local police from both municipalities, firefighters, Infoca, Civil Guard and Civil Protection officers They have been working in the area since the alert was received on 112. “They are forcefully confronting the fire, but when the aerial means go to reload, the fire breaks out again due to the wind”, affirmed the mayor of Alhaurín de la Torre. The collected commented that “there is still a wide space between the fire and the houses, but in five minutes it has advanced 200 meters.”
The General Directorate of Traffic has also reported the closure of the A 368 road, in Mijas, between kilometers 0 and 5 due to smoke. It is closed both ways.
The first calls about the fire began to be received at 112 at 12.37. At 13.25the Board activated the alert level 1 of the Forest Fire Emergency Plan. The area where the fire occurs already suffered another in 2008. It was caused and burned more than 70 hectares.
For their part, Infoca sources indicated that it is still premature to say that the accident was caused, since sometimes, due to the dynamics of the fire, there may be several foci. For this reason, they insisted that it will be their specialists from the Investigation Brigade and the members of the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard who will have to determine if it has been intentional or not.
