The Diputación de Málaga promised last March to contribute 300,000 euros for the construction of a regional center for Alzheimer’s patients in Benalmádena, at the expense of the rest of the administrations detailing their participation. In the absence of a response from the Municipal Council, the president of the provincial institution, Francisco Salado, has met with the representatives of the Benalmádena Association of Relatives of the Sick and Other Dementia (AFAB) and has expressed the commitment to increase the contribution so that the day center materializes as soon as possible.

Salado has assured that the people affected by this disease and their relatives cannot continue to wait, for which he has urged the Benalmádena City Council to participate in the financing of the works.

In 2010, the Benalmádena City Council ceded a plot to the AFAB, but the action has not been carried out due to lack of funding and the building license has expired, so now it is necessary to review the project and adapt it.

The regional center for Alzheimer patients will serve the citizens of Benalmádena and Torremolinos. The initial project, in addition to the day center, also contemplates the fitting out of a residence.

The president of the Diputación has made this announcement coinciding with the celebration, tomorrow, September 21, of World Alzheimer’s Day. This disease is the main cause of dementia and affects 1.2 million people in Spain. One in ten people over the age of 65 and more than a third of those over the age of 85 have it, and younger people are being diagnosed.

The Diputación de Málaga, in addition to the commitment to expand its contribution to the project of the regional center for Alzheimer’s patients, has scheduled an extensive agenda of activities to make this disease and its consequences visible, as well as the work carried out by the associations that work with this group in the province.

After the inauguration of the photographic exhibition ‘Recuérdame’, on the 14th in the Pacifico 54 exhibition space of the provincial institution, on the 16th the Edgar Neville auditorium performed ‘I do know who you are.
