The city of Marbella has celebrated this Saturday, June 11, its Big Day with the traditional procession in honor of the patron saint, San Bernabé, a march in which some 300 people have participated and which has been attended by the acting president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla.

The Fair atmosphere was palpable in the streets, where the dance academies have filled the enclaves of the processional procession with polka dots and frills on a morning in which the sun has burned with some harshness, which has not prevented the neighbors from attend the appointment to enjoy the traditional processionwith rosemary in hand.

The acts in honor of the Patron Saint have begun at 10:00 a.m. with a small civic-religious procession that has traveled through the old town until reaching the Cruz del Humilladero. The commemorative medals were awarded at this location, organized by the Huerto Porral Neighborhood Association, where recognized the official chronicler of the city, Francisco Moyano.

The exaltation of the Big Day has taken place with the procession in honor of the patron saintwho left at 12:00 noon from the Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation with a throne carried by 50 men and women and the participation of some 300 people, and which has traveled the main streets of the city such as Trinidad, Salinas, Arte, Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno or Nabeul or Ramón y Cajal avenues until returning to its temple.

The older brother of the Brotherhood of Los Romeros de San Bernabé, José Manuel Orozco, has stated the “satisfaction” and the “pride” of returning to the procession after two years of pandemic, although he recalled that last year San Bernabé was “on the steps that give access to the High Altar” of the parish.

For the organization of the procession, he stressed that it has been the “traditional” with the leading the march by “the dance academies” along with the Municipal Music Band of Marbella, who have been followed by “the queens and ladies, the entourage, the older brothers and the Boards of the other brotherhoods”. As a novelty this year, Orozco highlighted “the new corporate script, that it is a badge that we are going to release today and that will preside over all the acts and cults to our Patron”.

Among the most outstanding moments, he pointed to “the bell rings” at the exit, the meeting at the Gaspar bakery, which “birthday as well as the Brotherhood, which 40 years ago of his priestly ordination”, as well as the anthem of the Patron Saint of the city in the Alameda Park, at the height of the Virgen del Rocío Fountain.

“It is an honor to be able to be in procession through the streets of Marbella today on a very special day, not only because it is the day of its Patron Saint, but also because 40 years have passed since the brotherhood began to function and processso it was an act that from the institutional point of view it was extremely important to be present and I did not want to miss it, declared the regional representative.

For her part, the mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, has highlighted that the city “is experiencing a week and a few days of the Fair that I hope will continue until tomorrow with great joy”, emphasizing that “in the streets there is a lot of influx of people without any incident to highlight”.
