
The Mayor’s Office of San Pedro Alcántara is enabling a perimeter track for athletics at the El Arquillo sports center. The Deputy Mayor of Sampedreño, Javier García, visited the works today and pointed out that “it is a space that housed a road safety circuit, but which was currently in disuse, and has been recovered with a comprehensive refurbishment in response to requests Athletics Club until you can use the approved track that will be installed in the Guadaiza sports center in Nueva Andalucía«.
According to the deputy mayor, the objective is to continue developing the plan for the improvement and conservation of sports facilities, meeting the demands of the public.
García, who has been accompanied by the Councilor for Sports Activities of San Pedro, Javier Mérida, and the president of the club, Toni García, has specified that this is the third most important equipment in this area, after the Antonio Naranjo stadium and the pavilion Elena Benítez: «We have carried out different projects for its enhancement, like the remodeling of the basketball and futsal fields«.
The councilor has detailed that this new action will allow users to enjoy a running track with four lanes and a long jump and shot put pit, which will be completed in the first half of November with the creation of a straight for speed tests and training in a total area of 600 square meters. In addition, the bleachers have been fitted out, with capacity for a hundred people, and the access staircase, a perimeter fence has been placed and lighting has been improved «To guarantee its use in hours with less natural light».
For its part, Mérida has underlined that “these are works with which we continue to optimize this facility and that reinforce our commitment to promoting and fostering sport” and added that “it is a venue in which architectural barriers have been removed that impeded the development of training normally and that offers users, especially the youngest ones, the possibility of approaching the practice of athletics on a suitable track ».
