The city Hall has put out to tender for almost 5.7 million euros the construction of the new indoor sports pavilion in San Pedro Alcántara, which will be located on a 5,000 square meter municipal plot on Lyon Street, in the southern expansion area, and which will have a an area of 4,300 square meters on two floors, a large multipurpose central court and will bet on natural light with a unique roof. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, stressed that this facility, which has an expected execution period of 15 months from the award of the works, “will become a benchmark in an expanding area thanks to avant-garde design and a commitment to energy efficiency”.
The ruler has emphasized that the facilities will be located alongside “highly relevant” educational projects that are already underway, such as the new institute or the music and dance school, “so we will create an important focus of activity that will revitalize the South Sampedreño Ensanche Area ”, while highlighting the“ investment effort and commitment of the Government team to continue making more facilities available to citizens and local clubs and entities that respond to the growing demand for spaces for practice sports ”.
Regarding the characteristics of the future pavilion, the first mayor has advanced that the criteria of accessibility, safety, sustainability and integration will prevail and, in this sense, she has valued that the new equipment will stand out for its original roof, formed by four structures at different heights, and for the vertical cladding of laminated glass of different colors, “Which will allow the entry of natural light in a filtered and controlled way into the building”. Regarding the interior distribution, it has detailed that it will have a main lobby, multipurpose room, dependencies for clubs, press room, changing rooms, toilets, warehouse and massage room, among others.
The central multipurpose court, meanwhile, will have an area of 1,696 square meters and will be enabled for the practice of basketball, handball, futsal and volleyball. Finally, the project includes the urbanization of the outdoor areas with the provision of 80 parking spaces and a parking lot for bicycles, as well as the pre-installation of recharging points for electric vehicles. “We are going to provide the city with modern and versatile facilities,” added the mayor, who recalled that “we are also carrying out an authentic renovation of the municipal sports facilities” within the Conservation Plan, with an investment that in 2020 and 2021 will amount to 2.5 million euros.
