Mammography is one of the most effective methods for the early detection of breast cancer. For this reason, and on the occasion of the World Day of the fight against breast cancer, the Costa del Sol Environmental Complex, dependent on the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol and managed by Urbaser, Has made mammograms to female workers over 50 years of age.

In collaboration with Hospiten Estepona, more than 25 employees have undergone this diagnostic test, which consists of two plates for each breast, at no cost to them, and have received the medical report.

The radiologist from Hospiten Estepona, Lola martinez, remember that “breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in the female population, but with current treatments the cure rate is 85%, hence the importance of these radiological tests in their early detection, which save lives ”.

Last year, the Costa del Sol Environmental Complex organized an informative talk for the staff workers, in collaboration with the association Pink Flag, on how they should perform a chest self-examination to detect lumps or other abnormalities.

“This year we wanted to go one step further and provide a mammogram for workers over 50 years old, paid for by Urbaser, based on our commitment to responsible management of our employees and above all, to their health”, has appointed the Municipal Solid Waste delegate of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, Juan Luis Villalon.

The delegate clarifies that “although public health offers screening to certain age groups, we believe that these mammograms serve as a complement to those women who are already in this program and give the opportunity to others who have not yet started in it” .

In Spain, approximately 30 percent of cancers diagnosed in women originate in the breast. Breast cancer is already the most diagnosed tumor in the worldIn fact, it has overtaken lung cancer for the first time.
