More than 75,000 signatures have been collected through the digital platform Change.org, requesting the inclusion of Sierra Bermeja in the future Sierra de las Nieves National Park. This figure has been reached during the weekend in the aforementioned internet portal. At the time of publishing this information, the number of signatures was 75,604.

This claim has become one of the requests in this area with the greatest social support at the national level, according to Ecologists in Action-Sierra Bermeja, who thanked the population for the support of this initiative. The signature collection campaign still open, and who has not signed yet can do so at this link.

In addition to this popular request, the inclusion of Sierra Bermeja in this National Park is endorsed by scientific criteria, which are recognized worldwide as a unique space on the planet. «Without Sierra Bermeja the National Park would not exist, since the file has needed to integrate 10,000 hectares of the peridotite massif to reach the 20,000 it needs to be a National Park, “they say from the group.

Inclusion in the future park will allow increase the protection and defense of Sierra Bermeja against future fires and speculation, and especially of its most sensitive spaces, such as the only fir forest of the world that grows on peridotite rocks. This space is not even contemplated as Peripheral Protection Zone of the National Park, laments the biologist Felipe Román, from Ecologistas en Acción-Sierra Bermeja.
