The Mirador del Carmen exhibition hall de Estepona has exceeded 15,000 visits since it opened its doors on April 5 with the exhibition ‘Vivir en la pintura. Spanish art in the Carmen Thyssen’ Collection, where the presence of the local public stands out in 70% of the entrances to the cultural space, as reported by the City Council this Thursday.
Thus, from the Consistory they have highlighted that the inaugural exhibition came to register during five days of the Holy Week almost 5,000 visitswith days in which the capacity limit was reached
Among the visitors, the local public presence, which until now represents 70% of the entries, compared to national tourists, who make up 19% of those registered. 11% are tourists from other countries such as England, Germany, Holland, France, Italy, Belgium and the United States. Although the aforementioned are the main nationalities of origin, the Exhibition Hall has received visits from tourists from up to 32 different countries.
The directors of the Mirador del Carmen exhibition center, Lorena Codes and José Luis García Gómez, have indicated that “the public response is overwhelming. We knew that the quality of the ‘Vivir en la pintura’ exhibition would be well received, but we didn’t expect that there would be days with more than a thousand visits”.
The sample offers 46 pieces which cover more than 160 years of Spanish art – with the exception of ‘Estepona Beach with a view of the Rock of Gibraltar’, by Fritz Bamberger – and reflect the taste as a collector of Carmen Thyssen, who since the 1990s has been acquiring outstanding works of old masters, American painting and 20th century avant-garde but, above all, Andalusian and Catalan nineteenth-century Spanish painting.
Works by Joaquín Sorolla, Antoni Tàpies, Antonio SauraRomero de Torres, Ramón Casas, Iturrino and others make up this exhibition that will remain in the facilities of the new sociocultural center until September 25.
He Mirador del Carmen exhibition center opened its doors to the public on April 5 with the exhibition ‘Vivir en la pintura. Spanish art in the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection’, a selection of fifty works from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, covering national art from romanticism to pop art.
In this way, paintings by great Spanish artists of the 19th and 20th centuries will be exhibited in Estepona until September, brought together in a selection of works of art from the Carmen Thyssen collection, of which seven of the pieces are part of the permanent collection from the Carmen Thyssen Malaga Museum.
José Luis García Gómez and the artistic director of the project, Lorena Codes, are now working in the sample educational program and in the parallel activities with which they hope to equip the exhibition hall.
The exhibition center can be visited free of charge by those registered in Estepona. The price of tickets is 6 euros general and 4 euros reduced for those not registered. This facility is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
