The first day care center for people with mental health problems in Estepona, which will be managed by the Association of Relatives and People with Mental Illness of the Costa del Sol (Afesol), has begun to provide its services with workshops, excursions, physiotherapy sessions on the beach and therapeutic walksas reported this Thursday by the deputy mayor of the Sociocultural area, Begoña Ortiz.
The space is located in a plot of 1,500 square meters constituted by a municipal building and its surrounding area, in the Saladavieja area, being some facilities were ceded by the Estepona City Council in 2021.
As Ortiz explained, they are already offering the first tennis, paddle tennis, golf, hiking and basketball workshops. In addition, they are carrying out excursions, physiotherapy sessions on the beach and therapeutic walks which take place on Thursdays with the support of professionals from the Estepona mental health team
The municipal manager highlighted the work that Afesol has been carrying out since 1999 in the province of Malaga and especially on the Costa del Sol. non-profit association was declared in 2006 of Public Utility and is made up of family members and people with mental illness. Its purposes are to contribute to improve the quality of life of these people and their familiesclaim improvements in mental health in the province of Malaga and support this group in its relations with the administrations.
AFESOL also continues adapting these facilitiesfor which they have the help of the young people who are participating in the Electricity, Plumbing, Gardening and Masonry workshops offered free of charge by the City Council to young people between the ages of 16 and 24. These teams are always led and supervised by professionals.
