The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, has attended this Wednesday the inauguration of the international school Atlas American Schoolfirst center with American curriculum on the Costa del Sol that offers all educational levels, from Pre-school to Baccalaureate.
Present at the event were the CEO of Mathema Education, group to which this new project belongs, Antonio Arcones, and the director of the school, Trevor Sargent. The educational center, which is already in operation, has meant a investment of 12.5 million euros and the creation of some 115 direct jobs.
The Town Hall of Estepona awarded two municipal plots in September 2020 for the construction and management of this new educational facilitywhich is located in the sector known as Torrevigía, in the Selwo area.
In this way, a new educational project is promoted that expands the educational offer of Estepona with a international trilingual center and an Anglo-French school model, unique in the town due to its characteristics.
The educational complex occupies a area of 22,498 square meters and houses two differentiated buildings, one for the educational center itself, which will cover from Infant education to Baccalaureate, and another as student’s residence.
The company awarded this administrative concession for the construction and management of this educational center will pay an annual canon of 42,000 euros to the City Council of Estepona during the 75 years that the administrative concession will be valid of both parcels, which are classified as educational and social facilities in the current General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU). Once this concession period ends, the properties built on the plot will revert to the Consistory and will become part of the municipal inventory.
The councilor has declared that with this project another municipal plot of the city is activated and valued, Generating revenue for the City boosting the local economy and contributing to the maintenance and creation of employment. Likewise, it has ensured that the construction of a teaching center of these characteristics provides an important added value to the educational offer of the municipality.
Atlas offers an accredited curriculum in the United States and is distinguished by also offering an intensive program in French, another entrepreneurship for students from 14 to 17 years old, as well as high-performance intensive courses in sports such as golf, soccer, tennis or paddle tennis, fully integrated into school hours.
