The Government of Spain, through the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), is promoting in the province of Malaga stabilization projects for a value of 30 million euros, among which are those of regeneration of the beaches of El Bombo and La Cala de Mijasas announced on Monday by the sub-delegate of the Government, Javier Salas.

The state representative recalled that the Government is currently contemplating actions to protect the coastline of the province in Ferrara (Torrox); Malapesquera and Santa Ana in Benalmádena; Guadalmina-Guadaiza in San Pedro de Alcantara and Venus-Punta del Ancón in Marbella; and Baños del Carmen in Malaga.

Salas has underlined in the course of a visit he has made to the coastal areas of La Cala and El Bombo de Mijaswhere he was accompanied by the mayor, Josele González, and the Councilor for Beaches, José Carlos Martín, who “after the incorporation of this new project for these beaches, in the bidding phase of the drafting, the planned investment in the short and medium term already reaches 30 million euros”.

The sub-delegate of the central Executive has recalled “the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez for promote protection and regeneration works of the coast of the province of Malaga that had been forgotten after two legislatures of the PP Government no progress in this matter.

On Estimated investment in the work of the beaches of Mijas, has indicated that amounts to 2.2 million euros, while the budget for drafting the project is 70,000 euros. The coastal strip on which action will be taken for its stabilization and protection is 2.8 kilometers.

The Center for Studies and Experimentation of Public Works (CEDEX) of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA) prepared in 2020 the so-called ‘Study of the behavior of the beaches of La Cala de Mijas and action alternatives for its improvement’.

In this way, the different alternatives that will now be contemplated in the drafting of the project include the construction of retaining works for free-standing dikes or breakwaters; the contribution of sand and the setback of the promenade in a length of about 400 meters, as well as other options.

In addition, the stabilization project on the beaches of Malapesquera and Santa Ana of Benalmadena is in prior bidding period at the start of works, while the rest of the projects are in the final phase of environmental processing prior to bidding.
