The mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, defended this Tuesday in the Senate the stabilization of the beaches of Marbella and San Pedroclaiming the government deadlines and budgets for its execution immediate.

The also senator has reproached the Minister for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, for do not know the situation of the coast of the city and plan to tear down the promenade to build the jetties. “Marbella is a leading international tourist destination”, Muñoz underlined, who stressed that “the regeneration and stabilization of our beaches It is a capital issue for all small and medium-sized companies (SMEs), hotels and all those who make up this sector”.

The first mayor recalled that in 2017 the then minister Isabel García Tejerina “committed herself in this Senate with a clear announcement, as it is that the favorable environmental report was already there for the regeneration of the San Pedro Alcántara beach and that in 2018 there would be the construction project from Guadalmina to Guadaiza”.

“I was talking about a beach with a width of 40 to 50 meters, with the construction of 5 or 6 breakwaters,” said the mayor, while noting that “she already had the positive environmental report and the public exhibition prior to the construction tender”.

In addition, he has pointed out that Tejerina “also announced the tender for the Marbella beach project, specifically from La Venus to Ancón”. “With the change of government both projects were paralyzedthe one in San Pedro about to start construction and the one in Marbella, without even knowing if there is an environmental report”, he lamented, indicating that “in these four years we have not stopped having storms that have affected our coastline. and that, in the case of the City Council, it has meant 3.2 million euros in emergency items for its recovery”.

The councilor pointed out that the city “needs that commitment already on the part of the minister”, pointed out the also senator, who has pointed out that “the only thing we ask Ribera is to start the project that the Government of the Popular Party prepared in 2018 and that there really be a commitments and specific deadlines from your Ministry”.

In this sense, he has stated that the stabilization of the beaches must be carried out “as soon as possible, because Marbella needs it and because it deserves it”. “It’s a clamor from the Association of Emerged Breakwaters of Marbella, businessmen from the sector and neighborswho do not understand parties or political strategies, or anything else that is not responsibility, “he said.

“If the central government does not invest and projects that were underway are paralyzed, we can hardly make the most of all the effort to obtain all the recognitions that we have on our coast”, Muñoz stressed. Likewise, he recalled that Marbella “is one of the Andalusian coastal cities with the most blue flags, and which has a fortnight of ‘Q for Quality’ on its beaches and the ‘Safe Tourism’ certificate”, he indicated. At the same time, he stressed that “we are also the first city in all of Spain to obtain the ‘S’ for Sustainability offered this Thursday by the Ministry of Tourism.”

For this reason, he has invited the Minister of Ecological Transition to “come to Marbella, to realize the importance of our beaches and the situation in which they find themselves”, just as he has extended his hand “once again” to Ribera so that this claim on beach stabilization finally become a reality.
