The Medical Union of Malaga (SMM) has denounced this Tuesday in Marbella the “saturation” of health centers on the Costa del SolTherefore, it calls for improvements and points to the need for personnel in health centers and hospitals in the health district with around 80 new professionals.

The collective has offered a press conference today at the Marbella headquarters to denounce the Situation suffered by Health in the regionwhere the president, Antonio Martín, the delegate of Primary Care in the health district, Antonio de la Cruz, and the Costa del Sol hospital, José Luis Prada, have been.

De la Cruz has been in charge of drawing the map of primary care in the area, where he has shown that the Costa del Sol health district is one of “the most under-resourced in Andalusia, both in terms of personnel and infrastructure”. Thus, and based on a “study” that they have carried out on “the assigned population and the personnel needs”, it has detailed that in the region it is necessary the hiring of “35 family doctors and 6 pediatricians”.

The attention in the Out-of-hospital Emergency Services (SUAP)) is another of the points that he has denounced, highlighting the “overload” suffered by centers such as those in Las Lagunas de Mijas or Arroyo de la Miel, where there have been “resignations of contracts, nights with a doctor” or rescuing professionals from other centers, which diminishes attention. The union representative has assessed that “about 20 more professionals” are missing in these spaces.

lack of doctors

On the problem of lack of doctors to hirehas pointed out that professionals “do not want to work” due to the “saturation” of the centers, with “small and temporary contracts” or the “economic endowment”, emphasizing that “Andalusia is at the bottom in salaries and supplements”. This makes them “go to other autonomous communities or other countries”, he added.

Regarding the infrastructures, he has alluded to “health centers with 40 years” on the Costa del Sol, where “professionals do not fit”, and although it has influenced that the works of Los Pacos in Fuengirola and Ricardo Soriano in Marbella are underway; still “The works of San Miguel, Los Boliches or La Carihuela have not been tendered.

The organization is another of the aspects to which the delegate of the SMM has referred, assuring that “a Primary Care doctor does not have time” to attend “10 minutes per patient”, to which are added the “non-delayed consultations”, which generates an “overload”, in addition to the “absences” of the professionals themselves due to “illness, personal days, vacations…” . I have also mentioneddelay in the time of requesting an appointment”, which results in the saturation of hospital emergencies and SUATs, as well as the “bureaucratization” implicit in their daily work.

For his part, the SSM delegate from the Costa del Sol hospital, José Luis Prada, also alluded to the “disproportion between the needs of the actual population and the supply of health services”, highlighting that hospital emergencies are the ones with the greatest overload, an area in which he has assessed that They need between 10 and 12 professionals in Marbella with the new expansion and 5 or 6 in Estepona when it is fully operational.

In addition, it has pointed to a new conflict, the “pstatutory process” of the Costa del Sol hospital due to “the lack of communication from the Ministry of Health regarding its intentions”, since it implies “a change in the legal regime”, and subsequently to the failure to meet the deadlines, he added.
